La Storia in bit | Storia Digitale:
Dagli anni Sessanta del Novecento computer e informatica si sono proposti allo storico quali preziosi strumenti di ricerca, pur ponendo problematiche metodologiche non ancora del tutto superate.
Gli studiosi del settore attraverso pubblicazioni e seminari hanno da allora dato vita a numerose riflessioni, dalle esperienze degli anni Settanta sino agli anni Novanta, anni in cui il mutamento digitale posto dalla Rete ha portato ad interrogarsi sulla compatibilità di Internet con la ricerca storica.
Qualità e volatilità sono oggi alla base dei grandi interrogativi di chi fa ricerca, soprattutto in una disciplina quale è la Storia, che si fonda sull'analisi di fonti e poggia su impalcature storiografiche.

The Archive also serves as a repository of government records on a wide range of topics pertaining to the national security, foreign, intelligence, and economic policies of the United States. The Archive obtains its materials through a variety of methods, including the Freedom of Information act, Mandatory Declassification Review, presidential paper collections, congressional records, and court testimony. Il patrimonio documentario dell'Archivio Segreto Vaticano suscita un interesse così universale, sia per i documenti che riguardano in genere la storia della civiltà cristiana dal medioevo ai nostri giorni, sia per quelli relativi alla storia delle singole nazioni; anzi per alcuni Paesi i documenti vaticani sono i più antichi, i primi con cui ha inizio la loro stessa storia nazionale.
Attualmente l’Archivio Segreto Vaticano conserva oltre 630 fondi archivistici diversi, per un'estensione di circa 85 chilometri lineari di scaffalatura, coprendo un arco cronologico pressoché continuo di oltre 800 anni di storia.
Il documento più antico risale alla fine del sec. VIII, mentre si conserva una serie pressoché ininterrotta di documentazione a partire dal 1198.
L'Archivio Vaticano serve prima di tutto e principalmente al Romano Pontefice ed alla sua Curia, ossia alla S. Sede, (Motuproprio di Leone XIII del 10 maggio 1884). Nel 1881, per munificenza di Leone XIII, fu aperto alla libera consultazione degli studiosi e divenne così il centro di ricerche storiche più importante del mondo.
